Data Modeling Change Management Package

Change Management
Change management is a key component of any development environment. The CA ERwin® Model Manager (Model Manager) software supports change management for data and process models. This is done through model libraries, user groups, and security. The software stores models centrally and provides versioning to track model changes within a model library. These capabilities allow the administrator to implement and control model changes through Model Manager.

Jump-Start Package
The Data Innovations' change management jump-start package establishes the environment to support an enterprise level change management policy. The following sections identify what is included in the package:

Requirements:
The change management package will require the following:

These requirements allow Data Innovations to provide discounts for both software licenses and professional services.

Product Installation:
The Model Manager software will need to be installed. The following bullets identify the components of this service:

  • A custom installation plan for Model Manager is created.
  • Perform the product installation and create a document identifying a step-by-step installation procedure.
  • Install the license files.
  • Establish connectivity to the ERwin clients.
  • Create step-by-step administration procedures for Model Manager.

Establish the Environment:
The change management policy needs to be identified and implemented. The following bullets identify the tasks necessary to establish the environment:

  • Review the existing SDLC and change management policy for application development.
    • Create a document identifying the library structure necessary to mirror the SDLC for application development.
    • Create a document identifying the users and user groups necessary to support the change management process.
    • Create a document identifying the change management policy for models.
    • Create a document identifying the library security necessary to support the change management policy.
  • Establish the Model Manager environment:
    • Create the security groups.
    • Create the libraries to store models.
    • Define the security for each library.
    • Establish user access to the server and RDBMS.
    • Define users to user groups within Model Manager.
    • Populate the libraries with data and process models.
    • Create a document identifying the change management procedures, library structure, and a step-by-step user guide.

Deliverables:
The following bullets identify the primary deliverables of this package:

  • Change Management Policy. A document is created that identifies the change management policy and how it is integrated into the organization's existing SDLC.
  • Change Management Environment. The Model Manager software is installed and configured to support the SDLC and the change management policy. A document is created that identifies step-by-step installation instructions.
  • User Groups. The user groups are defined and populated to support the model SDLC and change management policy. A document is created that identifies the user groups, roles and responsibilities of group members, and examples of typical users.
  • Libraries. The libraries are created to support the new model SDLC and change management policy. A document is created that identifies the library structure within the Model Manager repository.
  • User Guide. This document identifies the change management policy, environment, users, and a step-by-step user guide.
